Choose which type of material is best for your pool cover. Solid, micromesh and fine mesh swimming pool covers are available and are the best protection against debris and other elements entering the pool water. Solid covers provide 100 percent protection, while micromesh and fine mesh covers allow some rain and melting snow to pass through.
Choose a swimming pool cover with an anchoring system; which should include a cable that can be laced through the covers built in grommets. A strong anchoring system will allow you to fasten your swimming pool cover to your pool and protect the pool liner and structure from the elements, harsh winds and freezing temperatures.
Check for overlap. Choose a cover that is four feet greater in length and width than the size of your pool. Excess material is necessary to fasten your cover without the material becoming too taut or stretched over the sides of the pool.
Check for strength and durability. Choose a cover with reinforced borders and a UV resistant coating to prevent damage from the sun.
Consider additional features such as a reflective silver top coating; which can melt snow faster and limit how much water accumulates on top of the cover. A black underside is an effective way to inhibit the growth of algae on the cover.
